Open Book Collective is an organization for first-generation college students, run by first-generation college students. Our goal is to foster community and creating networking opportunities for first-gen students in the Middle Tennessee area. Our name is inspired by our mission to create spaces where first-gen students can speak openly about their experiences and engage in dialogue about the challenges and insights
Open Book Collective recognizes that although we share this identity, the experience of being a first-gen student can differ for a number of reasons. Not only do other aspects of our identities intersect with one another, but the type of college or University we attend, our goals, and family background are among the many things that shape our experience.
In order to do justice to representing the diversity of first-gen student experiences, our website will soon feature a publication of creative work by first-generation college students. If you'd like to know more about our publication, or submit art, writing, or other creative projects, please see our "submissions" tab.
The founding of Open Book Collective would not be possible without the generous support we've received from The Curb Center at Vanderbilt. For more about their work , please click here.
